Review of Homebirth (Community Midwifery) written by a patient

Third baby, decided on home birth as second birth was so quick! We had an amazing experience with the home birth and would definitely recommend for a second or third birth following a successful previous birth. The midwives were exceptional, constantly monitoring heartbeat of baby, very reassuring and really made us feel at ease. Had baby on all fours in sitting room, midwives extremely careful containing any mess and made sure everything was clean before leaving (not really much mess at all as the midwives were constantly cleaning up if that is worry for anyone!) Husband was even allowed to deliver baby with assistance, totally made the whole experience worth while and gave him a great story to tell everyone in the pub about how he delivered his daughter! All very calm after delivery, cups of tea and toast all round! So nice to be able to jump in my own shower to freshen up. No uncomfortable journey back from hospital! Cannot thank my midwives Karen and Sue enough for all their support and assistance throughout the labour. We really would recommend a home birth to anyone.

The midwifes are absolutely fantasic. I couldn't have asked for better care. One midwife inparticular really stood out for me. Her name is Nicola Silcocks, she always took the time to ask if I had any questions and explain them so I never felt anxious as I knew she was there to help me. I don't know how would have got through my pregnancy without the team of ladies who do an amazing job. The only negative experience I have had is with the healthy life style clinic. The way in which I was made to feel and the way thing's were explained and put across was awful. By the end of my pregnancy I refused to see the clinic as I always ended up leaving in tears. Yes I was aware from day one of my pregnancy I was over weight with a high BMI and the implications to my baby. However I did my best to keep my weight gain to a minimum. I only gained 18lbs in total which I still believe was really good. But they always made you feel like you had failed yourself but more importantly your baby. It took me a good couple of weeks after each appointment before I started to feel better about myself again. I would NOT recommend the healthy life style clinic to anyone as I feel it can do more harm than good, as my experience was always a negative one.

Very through and enjoyable appointment with my midwife. Attended antenatal classes at the triage which was very useful and informative.
